How Real Humans Talk!

Saturdays, June 1 – June 15 | 3-5pm ET
3-week course

Learn to write flawlessly halting, fumblingly REAL dialogue! Mushy, sentimental, hyper-articulate, or full of cloying exposition? Dialogue that HASN’T been trained on actual human conversational rhythm is a liability. But when we nail authentic “voice,” we DEEPEN investment in the fictional world we’ve built. Join this workshop for a super fun, collaborative, observation-based 3 weeks of ear-training and craft know-how! The class is geared around dialogue-writing for screenplays, but absolutely appropriate for writers in any conversational medium (fiction, sketch, etc).

Your Teenage Self Was A F***ing Star

Sundays: February 25 – March 17 | 3pm – 5pm ET @ Write or Die
4-week screenwriting course

This 4-week version of my most popular course allows more time to get you writing and putting the framework (and glory) of the “teen galaxy” into practice. Together, we’ll revisit who we were in high school, roll around in the cringey nostalgia (turns out it’s delicious!), do an archeological dig in our moms’ basements, dust off any old shame, fall in love with our V1 prototypes, and from this tender and hilarious place craft an idiosyncratic, achingly specific high school heroine for the ages. Not “you”—but gorgeous pieces of you, folded into an exquisitely awesome new character.

When Barbie Met Falkor: 1 Session Film Lover Seminar

Sunday, March 17 | 3-6pm ET @ Writing Co-Lab
1 session seminar

In this afternoon seminar, we’ll explore two magical films, “Barbie” (2023) and “The NeverEnding Story” (1984)—one an instant classic, one a nostalgia-drunk classic, both brilliant examples of “alternative storytelling” and fearless play on the page. These overtly commercial films (and commercial hits) are planted in “mere” child’s play—but they gift profound lessons to storytellers of all modes and genres—mind-blowing teachings on the nature of power exchange and capital “c” Creativity itself. As geographical cousins, the landscapes of Barbieland and Fantasia offer struggle, self-discovery, and full-on revolution (middle fingers raised high!).
